These burners consistently burned at top speeds for me, averaging an entire DVD burn in around 6 minutes.
Now NEC appears to have stopped making their own brand of DVD burners, and instead have forged some agreement with SONY to produce a combined-engineering "OptiArc" drive. As these drives have been getting not-so-great reviews, I was forced to shop around for another brand.
I have found a lot of great reviews on the Samsung SATA line of multi-writer drives.
The drive for me appears to be the SH-S203N model, with the following specs:
SAMSUNG SH-S203N 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe and 2MB Cache (SATA – Black|White)
DVD+R DL 16X
DVD-R DL 12X
NewEgg.Com has the Samsung SH-S203N drive for around $38 shipped (3-day!).
