Problem Setting Up Media Center Extender On Windows XP MCE Edition – Unsupported Operating System

When I tried to add my XBOX 360 as an authorized extender from one of my Windows XP MCE 2005 PCs, I kept getting a ridiculous error message stating "Unsupported Operating System".  This is when I absolutely was running the correct operating system – Windows XP MCE 2005 Rollup 2!

I found this dialogue on the Microsoft Knowledge Base discussion forum:

Hi All

I have installed on my PC the following version of Media
Center:

Windows Media Center Edition 2005
Version: 5.1.2715.3011

Update Rollup 2

Also in the registery setting: Ident : 3.1

Now when I run the following .exe:

XboxMCE05Lite-enu.exe

I get the following:

Unsupported Operating System

Any
ideas how I can get this Media Extender app to install, as it use to work before
rollout 2 came along.

regards
Steve

Your Ident is actually set improperly. It should be 4.0.

Use this
tool to fix the ident value prior to running the Extender setup.

In addition, if you have installed Windows XP Service Pack 3, then the

following fix may be relevant as well.
